Reading History Essay

My reading history was quite a journey from before my school years to wear I am now. Reading is something my parents stressed to me was going to be needed all throughout my life and how important it was going to be, and they were right. I use reading everyday now and there’s not a day I go without reading. Reading is important because in this world now, not being able to read can really hurt you. So, now I will take a look back on how my reading history started.

My earliest memories of reading are not really that clear to me. Before school my parents tried practicing with me as much as they could. My older brother also tried, but got frustrated. At night I would like trying to read books. I also would like when my mom read stories to me. I don’t remember my first book, but I am sure it was probably a Dr. Seuss book; my mom almost bought everyone of his books. My parents are a big help in my reading past. They influenced me to read because they got me to where I am today. From the information of what my mom and dad gave me, they said reading came easy to me. Reading is important in my life, and they knew that.

In my early school years of my life, I remember reading a lot of books. We were focused everyday on reading. This was the stage in my life where I became a more independent reader. Around this age, I became an above intermediate reader, but was not an expert. As I got older I really tried to challenge myself with books. I started reading chapter books at an earlier age to challenge myself. I liked to try to impress my parents as much as I could because they were always so proud of me. In my earlier years, I read books such as, Dr. Seuss’s famous, Green Eggs and Ham, and the Bernstein Bears. As I grew older in the middle of elementary school I read the Junie B. Jones series. Then near the end of the elementary school I read the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.  In my elementary school, they took reading seriously. When you finished a book you were reading, you would take it to the computer and take an A.R. test, which stood for accelerated reading. The level of books we read was worth more point, then the points add up and when you reach a certain amount of points you get prizes. Elementary school was a more focused environment for reading.

My latest school years for middle school and reading were not focuses on as well. In 6th grade we did not focus on reading that much. The only thing I remembered was taking a test on our summer reading, which was book you had to read over the summer.  We read two books in class, on was called Hatchet and the other one I don’t remember, but it was about kids in a town and all the parents were killed because of a plague. In 7th grade, reading became more fun to me, after losing my interest around 5th and 6thgrade. We read fun books and learned reading techniques so I started liking it. 8th grade was one of the best reading experiences ever. We read the best books by the by the best authors they were very exciting and thrilling. My latest school years were the best.

Reading now is something I enjoy but I am starting to loose interest. My favorite books are A Child Called “IT” by Dave Pelzer, because I like biography books. I like this genre because I like thrill and drama books that are realistic and really happen to someone. This past year I read an amazing book called Night by Ellie Wiesel. I decided what to read be a recommendation from my teacher. I don’t like reading at home because I can never focus. To many things are happening at once. I liked reading in school my teacher kept the class quiet. The teacher helps me become a better reader by teaching us more techniques in class. Reading is the key to success in life. In this life, reading can make your or break you.
